Question: Do Mint or Ubuntu provide any means for fixing this problem ? There is no chance for me to rmmod the r8169 and modprobe a different one, as all this happens before I get the chance to enter anything at all. Furthermore, the loaded 8169 driver shuts down the network card completely (the pc and the network switch on the other end have to be shut down and unplugged from the power supply for several minutes before the network device works again!!). The module sources consist of several 8169 files now, which do not support the card above anymore (full string missing in rtl_chip_infos). However, the new Mint 20 version uses kernel 5.4.0-26 (at least on the ISO provided for download). Working perfectly fine with the r8169 module (in 4.15.0-109 the driver for that is just a single r8169.c file, which claims to be version 2.3LK-NAPI). RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 04) I'm currently running Mint 19.3 with my onboardĮthernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
